Spotlight on the Arts Summer Camps was founded in 2004 by Rob Tessier to meet the need of many Catholic families in Northern Virginia who seek excellent training in Theatre and Art for their children within an environment they can trust. Only hosted by and advertised within Catholic Churches, Spotlight exclusively employs highly-qualified instructors who are both Catholic and artistically accomplished.
Well-received by pastors, families, and children, the camps continue to grow and expand. However, Spotlight insists on a small teacher-to-student ratio and, in addition to the excellent instructors, the founder, Rob, personally teaches at each theatre camp every day. The Art Camps are also taught by professional Catholic Art Teachers.
It’s the goal of the entire Spotlight team to foster a love for the arts and help young people develop skills that will help them for a lifetime.
WHAT OTHER PARENTS SAY ABOUT OUR CAMPS
Obviously, we are a bit biased when it comes to Spotlight. 🙂 That’s why you shouldn’t just take our word for it! Instead, read what other parents like YOU have to say about our camps…
“My daughter loves Drama Bootcamp, which is why we will be coming back again this summer. She had fun and I was impressed with the professionalism and enthusiasm of the camp counselors. Well done and thank you!” – Lisa Phillips, Chantilly
“My daughter has gone to this camp for years and is excited every time. Even though we offer her different choices for summer camps, she always chooses this one. To her, it’s a safe, fun, physical and educational camp where she can meet and make good friends. Something that she will talk about and remember it as part of her childhood.” – Christine Nguyen, Manassas
“I wanted to let you know that when I asked my daughter what camps she wanted to do this summer, your Camp Broadway was the first and only one that she mentioned. My family is looking forward to seeing what they have learned when we join you for the Performance Showcase. These camps are perfect for those that love to sing and dance, and is a great outlet for the dramatic child in all of them.” – Mary Foyes, Burke
“My son had an amazing time in the Kindergarten art camp! It gave him the confidence to draw and write more on his own and was a great boost in his fine motor skills for the school year. He can’t wait to come back to the Spotlight camps this summer!” – Alicia Smith, Nokesville
“We love Spotlight on the Arts! The experienced instructors use kind, constructive ways to help the young people gain confidence and grow as young actors/actresses. We look forward to each year and the success my child achieves from these camps!” – Rebecca Shields, Manassas
“I have watched my daughter transform from a shy little girl into a confident young lady who loves the stage after taking your Theatre Camps camps last summer. Her peers were SO encouraging to her every day, every moment, every skit. She embraced the positive environment that your camps provided. This year, not only are we returning, but her little sister will attend as well! Thank you for giving my daughter the confidence and positivity for life on and off stage!” – Angela Cronan, Dumfries
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
A father of nine children, including one with special needs, and with decades of professional experience in the arts, Rob Tessier, has a deep understanding of what kids need when it comes to arts instruction.
As an undergraduate theatre student at Miami University, Rob was invited by a number of community center organizations to teach at or design their curriculum for drama. In those early years, he also founded the St. Mark Theatre Ministry for Youth and Young Adults seeking a way to merge both faith and drama. From college, Rob was selected to attend the highly-competitive Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College where he continued to receive a performance education from the top professionals in the world. He was hired to travel with the Greatest Show on Earth and even to this day is called on to do special events.
Following the Circus, Rob felt a strong calling to Youth Ministry so he left his performance career to become a parish Youth Minister in the Arlington Diocese. God has continually inspired Rob to integrate his theatrical training within his Youth Ministry which eventually led to his founding of the premier Upper Room Theatre Ministry and a few years later, the Spotlight on the Arts Summer Camps.
Please join us this year and see the difference the arts will make in YOUR child’s life!
All “Spotlight on the Arts” staff are approved to work with young people through the Child Protection & Safety Program sponsored by the Arlington Diocese. Our camps are fully licensed and insured.
