Meet Your Camp StaffSpotlight Camp Director

Rob TessierRob Tessier, a former Ringling Brothers Clown and stage & TV actor, is founder/director of Upper Room Theatre Ministry, a private acting coach, and Director of Youth Ministry at All Saints Church. He holds a Theatre degree from Miami University, a Professional Clown Diploma from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, and a VA Department of Education Drama Teaching Certificate for K-12. Named a Best Director in the DC/MD/VA area by DC Metro Theater Arts, Rob has been directing & teaching theatre well over 20 years.

Camp Broadway

Cathy DrummondMrs. Cathy Drummond (Singing, Camp Broadway Director) has over 30 years of teaching experience, recently received a Grammy Music Educator Award nomination, was the 2014 Teacher of the Year from Round Elementary, and has been named a Star Teacher by Hal Leonard Corporation. Currently the Music Director for Upper Room Theatre, Cathy holds a degree in Music Therapy.

Peter KadeliMr. Peter Kadeli (Singing) is the Choral Director at Bishop O’Connell High School and is excited to return for his third year at Spotlight. Mr. Kadeli was Vocal Director for Bishop O’Connell productions of The Sound of Music, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Into the Woods. The choral program also debuts their music theatre talent annually during the Broadway Desserts Showcase. He studied Music Composition and Choral Education at George Mason University.

Christine LairdMrs. Christine Laird (Acting) is the Theatre Teacher and Director for Osbourn Park High School. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Theatre Education and holds her B.M. in Musical Theatre. A local performer and director, she has performed at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap and international venues in Budapest and Prague.

Maria Rose DavisMs. Maria Rose Davis (Dance) is a graduate of DeSales University with a degree in Dance. She has been involved in theatre throughout her life including several wonderful summers with Upper Room Theatre Ministry as a dancer and choreographer. She has worked under the artistic directors of the Coart Dance Co., Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, and Madboots Dance Co., as well as studied under such dance legends as Trinette Singleton.

Drama Bootcamp

Karen KelleherMs. Karen Kelleher (Acting, Drama Bootcamp Director) is a professional  singer and actor in the DC area. She is the music and theatre teacher for St. Joseph School in Herndon. Karen has previously worked at Arena Stage for American Theatre after graduating from the University of Mary Washington with a degree in Theatre and a minor in Musical Theatre. This is her 9th year at Spotlight.

Esther TennysonMs. Esther Tennyson (Improvisational Comedy) is Theatre Director at Potomac High School. When she’s not teaching theatre, she performs comedy improvisations with FOOLS! and works on and off stage in local community theatres, including Castaways Repertory Theatre and Upper Room Theatre Ministry.

Kirstin WeberMrs. Kirstin Weber (Theatre Games & Movement), a graduate of Franciscan University with a B.A. in Theatre & English, currently assists in directing theatre St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School where she is the Middle School English Teacher.   Kirstin also performs onstage with FOOLS! Comedy Improv.

Arts & Crafts Fun Camp

Nicole KardarasMs. Nicole Kardaras (Arts & Crafts Director, Camp Administrator) holds her B.F.A. in Studio Art and her MAT in Teaching Art K-12. She currently teaches Art in PWCS, and is a published illustrator and local muralist. An instructor at Spotlight Camps since its inception, Nicole was also the Scenic Art Director for Upper Room Theatre’s Peter Pan.

Art Explorer Camp

Vivian GradyMrs. Vivian Grady (Art Explorer Director) studied at the International Institute of Interior Design and Art, The Corcoran and Marymount. Currently teaching Art at St John Academy, she draws on a rich professional background and looks forward to working with every student and seeing their enthusiasm when they work on new projects.

All “Spotlight on the Arts” staff are approved to work with young people through the Child Protection & Safety Program sponsored by the Arlington Diocese. Our camps are fully licensed and insured.
