Spotlight Camp Director
Rob Tessier, a former Ringling Brothers Clown and stage & TV actor, is founder/director of Upper Room Theatre Ministry, a private acting coach, and Director of Youth Ministry at All Saints Church. He holds a Theatre degree from Miami University, a Professional Clown Diploma from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, and a VA Department of Education Drama Teaching Certificate for K-12. Named a Best Director in the DC/MD/VA area by DC Metro Theater Arts, Rob has been directing & teaching theatre well over 20 years. This past summer he also produced the musical that was named Best Community Theatre Production in the DC Area by BroadwayWorld.
Mrs. Cathy Drummond (Singing, Broadway Spotlight Director) has over 30 years of teaching experience, recently received a Grammy Music Educator Award nomination, was the 2014 Teacher of the Year from Round Elementary, and has been named a Star Teacher by Hal Leonard Corporation. Currently a Music Director for Upper Room Theatre, Cathy holds a degree in Music Therapy.
Mr. Chris Zavadowski (Acting) has over 20 years of experience performing, directing, and music directing, and is currently the Resident Director of the Broadway musical Amazing Grace at the Museum of the Bible. He has worked professionally at The Kennedy Center, Off-Broadway, Signature Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre, Lakes Region Summer Theatre, Virginia Tech, and more. Chris holds degrees in Theatre Arts and Music (Vocal Performance) and is a Director and Music Director with Upper Room Theatre.
Mrs. Vickie Taylor (Dance) earned her B.A. in Dance at St. Leo University and has since toured with performance and education programs and directed a dance studio. Vickie’s dance experience includes teaching choreography, movement, and dance to students of all ages. She also has choreographed numerous local and regional stage productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Fiddler on the Roof, and Peter Pan.
Ms. Esther Tennyson (Improvisational Comedy, Drama Bootcamp Camp Director) has 8 years experience as after school Theatre Director at Potomac High School. When she’s not teaching theatre, she performs comedy improvisations with Fools! and works on and off stage in local community theatres, including Upper Room Theatre and Prince William Little Theatre.
Mr. Matthew Clem (Character Development) has a passion for bringing joy to young people through youth and theatre ministry. From a revolutionary in Les Misérables to Cogsworth in Beauty & the Beast, Matthew is a master of character & comedy on the stage. A former Camp Broadway instructional assistant, Matthew is currently a medical student that believes laughter is the best medicine… and what better way to share it than to teach theatre!
Mrs. Kirstin Weber (Acting), a graduate of Franciscan University with a B.A. in Theatre & English, currently assists in directing theatre St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School where she is the Middle School English Teacher. Kirstin also performs onstage with Fools! Comedy Improv Troupe.
Arts and Crafts Fun & Art Explorer
Mrs. Roberta Plumb (Church of the Nativity Art Camps) has taught Art to K–8th grade students for 12 years at Nativity School. Holding a B.A. in Studio Arts from Mt. Vernon College, Roberta is an award-winning artist, formally recognized by the St. John Paul II Cultural Center and the Art League. She also teaches children’s art workshops at the Art League of Alexandria and is passionate about showcasing her students’ pieces.
Mr. Erik Teter (All Saints Art Camps) currently teaches Art, Photography, and Digital Arts at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington. He holds a B.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. Drawing and painting are his favorite media, and he believes that beauty will save the world. Erik enjoys making people laugh, cooking, and helping students discover their talents through the artistic process.
Songwriting and Performance Workshop
Ms. Marie Miller is a Curb records recording artist and songwriter. Growing up in the Shenandoah Valley, the third of ten children, Miller began singing at the age of seven. Her song “You’re Not Alone” was played nationwide on pop radio, and her song “6’2” was featured on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. In 2015, her performance for Pope Francis and 750,000 attendees in Philadelphia was aired live on CNN and Fox News. Marie recently released her first full length album, “Letterbox” which was featured by Billboard Magazine, SiriusXM, and NPR. Her music is a unique blend of folk/pop. She has opened for The Backstreet Boys, Sara Evans, and Andy Grammar and she toured with Kris Allen and Five For Fighting.
Fools! Comedy Improvisation Intensive
Mr. Matt Moore has worked as an award-winning creative director, event producer, theatrical director, and presenter for over 25 years. As founder of the Fools! Improv Troupe, he has led a successful improv team for over 20 years in front of hundreds of large audiences. Matt has been instructing young people in the arts of improv and theatre for almost a decade. He has also traveled the country producing commercials, multimedia, and staged events that have been featured during Superbowl XXXIV, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and on FOX.
All “Spotlight on the Arts” staff are approved to work with young people through the Child Protection & Safety Program sponsored by the Arlington Diocese. Our camps are fully licensed and insured.
